Servicing Explained

Here at Bottle Lake Bikes I offer three key service packages that are designed to keep your bike working perfectly. Different services suit different bikes, riders and budgets so choosing the right service is important - and I’m here to help. If you're unsure, I am happy to advise!

General Service

This service is great for bikes that are only ridden occasionally or very simple bikes. I still check every nut and bolt on the bike, adjust the brakes and gears and ensure the bike is fully safe to ride, but this service doesn’t address things like greasing hub and headset bearings or wheel spoke tension adjustment. This service also gives me an opportunity to look over the bike thoroughly and a chance to remedy any other issues.

Full Service

This is a great service for the regular rider or for a bike that hasn't had a full service for a while. This service includes getting grease into all the main bearings to keep them running smoothly, wheel truing and spoke tension adjustment as well as hub and headset servicing. If your chain and cassette is caked in mud and dirty oil, I will also recommend adding on a drivetrain deep clean. Some shops include the drivetrain clean automatically, but as not every bike needs it, I would rather offer a cheaper service and only add it on if needed. If you have a mountain bike, this service, plus suspension servicing is a great annual service scheme to keep your pride and joy at its best in Christchurch's harsh riding conditions. For more info on the how and why of suspension servicing, take a look at this article. Suspension servicing can be expensive, but after working at Evo Cycles and seeing a lot of neglected and prematurely worn suspension, I have made the decision to offer suspension servicing for almost half the price of many other workshops - I’d rather see the service done than your bike neglected.

MTB Full Overhaul

This is the service that I do on my personal mountain bike. It is a serious service for serious mountain bike riders and covers all the things that are often neglected including suspension servicing, dropper post servicing, fresh sealant in tubeless tyres and greasing rear suspension pivots. It’s not cheap, but with many bikes costing well over $5000, they are worth looking after properly. This service will also keep any creaks and groans away, keep everything working as smoothly as possible and prevent any annoying issues popping up.

Other repairs and maintenance

I am happy to help with any individual repairs whether it is something complex like a wheel build, suspension service or bearing replacement or a simple puncture repair or gear adjustment.
